GARDENING CALENDAR – AUGUST

By now you will be relaxing in your lovely garden with a jug of Pimms, enjoying watching everything grow and bloom.

How about a trip to the garden centre to buy an ornament to complete your oasis of calm? Or some patio furniture?

If it’s hot we have all the hose pipes and nozzles that you might need.

We will be starting to look to the autumn, as our packets of winter bulbs start to arrive. Daffodils, tulips, hyacinths, crocuses, and more!

Things to do in the garden

Mow lawns every week.

Treat ants nests with Nippon® products.

Keep on top of your weeding routine.

Keep an eye out for vine weevils in plants that are struggling, particularly container grown plants. We recommend BugClear™ Ultra Vine Weevil Killer, a systemic insecticide compost drench for the control of vine weevil and other pests in pots, hanging baskets and other containers.

Pruning

Dead-head every day.

Dead-head roses to encourage new flowers.

As lavender plants finish flowering give them a light pruning.

Summer prune wisteria.

Summer flowering shrubs can also be pruned once they’ve finished flowering.

It’s pruning time for hedges and evergreen plants before they become dormant.

Watering

Water well, morning or evening, and top up mulch where needed.

Sowing

If you’re thinking of planting a new lawn, it’s nearly time to sow grass seed, so prepare sites well.
